One night Baldar awoke from a frightful dream, Odin concerned for his son went to the Volva ( the seer) and asked her what the dream meant. Sghe told Odin that Baldar had foreseen his own death, this worried Odin greatly so he sent his wife Frigga into the world to get everything in it to pledge their loyalty to Baldar and that they would not hurt him. But when Frigga came unto the little mistletoe plant she did not ask it for allegiance for she felt that it could not hurt Baldar in the least bit. But when Loki had gotten word of this he conceived of a wicked plan. disguised as an old woman Loki went to the blind god Hod and gave him an arrow made of mistletoe and told old Hod to join in the game of hurling weapons at Baldar. Hod agreed thinking that the arrow would not harm him, but he was wrong, the arrow pierced Baldar's heart and killed him instantly. Odin was furious when he found out who was behind all of this, he imprisoned Loki on a rock chained face up, and above his face was put a serpent that would constantly drip poison into his eyes till Ragnarok. Odin then sent Hermod the messenger of the gods to the world of Hel and asked forthe life of his son back, Hel agreed but only if every living thing in the nine worlds would weep for his soul, all souls wept for Baldar save one.
